Games youth play

Melodic Montreal rockers The Mission District take making music seriously.

And though the support of family, friends and media including Perez Hilton, who has written extensively about the six-piece outfit   is important, band members say what really matters is connecting with fans.

The main thing about our record is that our fans absolutely love it, and (thats) helped us make new ones as well, vocalist Dave Rancourt tells Metro. Its the only feedback that really counts.

Debut album, Youth Games, which hit stores in March, is influenced by a variety of 80s British pop acts such as The Cure, Tears For Fears and Talk Talk as well as American pop groups Weezer, Jimmy Eat World and The Get Up Kids

The record is  full of catchy beats and melodies and sing-a-long lyrics.

Our sound is extremely energetic pop ... with hit you over the head choruses that will stay in your head for days and make you want to dance around your apartment (or) house, says Rancourt. The lyrics are based on personal experience as well as fictional stories, but are rooted in a coming of age theme.

The band members are quick to say they have little interest in becoming a part of Canadas established indie rock scene.

We dont care about the indie crowd, says Rancourt. And we actually know how to write hooks.

The band are working on a few projects at the moment, including a tour and working on a video for Youth Games that should be ready by late June.

Lionel promises reunion tour

LIONEL RICHIE is to reunite with band The Commodores for a tour, he revealed.

The soul singer, 58, said he wanted to get back together within two years.

He said: “We better do it now, or in the next ten years nobody would
care.”

Richie also said the band must tour before it is too late – after
guitarist MILAN WILLIAMS died two years ago.

Bass player RONALD LA PREAD joined Lionel on stage on his last tour to
perform band hits such as Three Times A Lady.

Grammy winner Richie, who is in Antigua for a music festival, broke away to
launch a solo career in the 1970s.

Kanye West - Wests Late Show Leaves Fans Upset

ABC's wild, wacky game shows

Reasons to watch ABC's "Wipeout" (8 tonight) and "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" (9 tonight): Nothing else on. These shows also could be breakout hits.

In "Wipeout," 24 people without any sense of shame go through various obstacle courses en route to a $50,000 prize.

Ten Yanks shot "Game Show" in Japan in early spring. Various competitions are culled from actual Japanese game shows. The winner gets $250,000.

ABC hasn't provided much in advance to watch, but there were some clips for "Wipeout," and they were (seriously) hilarious. I also spoke with "Game Show" producer Art Smith ("Hell's Kitchen"), and he insists the whole affair's a spoof. I'm sold. Both look and sound like a lot of fun.

Oasis extends Sony BMG partnership

Inks a deal for three more albums

NEW YORK -- Oasis has expanded its partnership with Sony BMG by signing a new three-album deal with the company. The profit-sharing agreement will find Oasis continuing to release music on its own Big Brother imprint, with global distribution and marketing by Sony BMG.
Oasis' first three albums were released by Creation Records. Afterward, the band launched Big Brother and inked a distribution deal with Sony's Epic label for the albums "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants," "Heathen Chemistry" and "Don't Believe the Truth."
The first fruit of the pact will be Oasis' seventh, as-yet-untitled album, which is expected before year's end. Sony BMG will all pursue worldwide initiatives with the band's back catalog.
"Oasis are in complete control of their destiny and could have chosen to sign with anyone, or even go it alone, so I am delighted that they have chosen to continue to work with us," said Sony BMG Music Entertainment U.K. chairman/CEO Ged Doherty.
Added Oasis management principal Alex McKinlay, "This allows the band to take advantage of all the opportunities presented by the new business models available today as well as remaining totally in control of their own destiny."
Oasis will return to the road in the summer for a short North American tour, beginning Aug. 26 in Seattle. Three dates in Mexico are also on tap for November.

'Kim Cattrall Is Inspirational For Older Women'

Kim Cattrall’s mother loves watching her daughter bare all on Sex And The City, because she thinks maneater Samantha is an inspiration for older women everywhere.

The 51-year old is not shy when it comes to getting naked for her role in the hit HBO show, and will no doubt be getting her kit off again for the big screen adaption later this month.

Doting mother Shane said: "Kim is a role model for 50-something women. Much has been made about her nudity in the film, but I think she looks fabulous."

And proud mum Shane, 79, insists people who criticise Cattrall's on-screen antics are just jealous of her well-preserved body.

She adds: "Anyone who knocks that is jealous. All this fuss about a bit of nudity is ridiculous."

Do you think Kim is a role model for older women? Be sure to leave your comments below.

My Chemcial Romance fans set for emo protest today (May 31)

My Chemical Romance fans are staging a march today (May 31) in London to protest against claims the emo genre is a suicide cult.

Fans will head to the offices of the Daily Mail, the British newspaper that attacked the genre in the aftermath of the suicide of Hannah Bond, a fan of the band.

The paper claimed "no child was safe from the sinister cult of emo" after the coroner at Bond's inquest criticised the genre's influence in her death.

It followed an article in 2006 which erroneously linked emo with the goth scene and included claims that the fans of the genre were self-harmers.

However both music fans and My Chemical Romance themselves have hit back insisting emo and the band's music is not intrinsically linked with suicide.

Along with today's march, fans are also expected to hold a 12 hour vigil in Hyde Park.

NME.COM will bring you coverage of today's protest as it happens.

The attack on emo in the UK comes on the heels of the persecution of Mexican fans of the genre, which has seen rock fans physically attacking so-called "emo kids".
